Soon after this, attention was drawn to several failures to replicate important findings in the area of social cognition. ![]() The current discussion in psychology about the validity of research practices was sparked in 2011 by revelations that several prominent social psychologists fabricated their data. We also provide resources that will help researchers to stay informed about this rapidly evolving debate. Following is a brief summary of some of these issues, with an emphasis on how they might affect students and early career researchers. In recent years, the field of psychology has been confronting serious questions about whether some of its research practices (e.g., “ p-hacking”, undervaluing replication, failing to publish null results) undermine the validity of its findings.
